Foundation rock at the dam site consists of metamorphosed rocks which have been subjected to low-grade regional metamorphism. Predominating at the site is a very hard, dense, greenish-gray to black, coarse to fine-grained rock in which recrystallization of the minerals due to metamorphism is such that the original composition is obscure. The average specific gravity of the rock is about 2.960. This rock generally appears massive, although a rough schistose structure, which is accentuated by weathering, is not uncommon. The rock at the dam site is generally fine-grained.
