Hey people! I'll be heading back home to Arkansas next week for Christmas, and would like to do some Quartz collecting in the Quachitas. Does anyone know which of the mines have been more productive lately and/or which of the mines have recently had new material exposed? I am interested in hard-rock mining, not sifting through mine dumps. Thanks, Gary Livingston gary@cs.pitt.edu ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Dec 2001 13:40:59 -1000 From: Kitty & Bill Heacox Subject: Re: Looking for sand for school kids - --=====================_21542932==_.ALT Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; format=flowed I can send you some sand from "green sand beach" on the south point of the Big Island of Hawaii. It is black volcanic sand (basalt) with enough grains of olivine to make it appear dark green. It is possible to pick out some bits of the olivine to hold up to the light and see translucence.
